Cabin house plans typically feature natural materials for the exterior, a simple and open floor plan, porches or decks, and a wood stove or fireplace. While historically small homes with 1-2 bedrooms, today’s contemporary cabin plans can be much larger and more luxurious.

What to Look for in Cabin House Plans?

Somewhat similar to cottage house plans, cabin plans have much less ornamentation and a more rustic vibe.

  • Cabin exteriors prominently feature natural materials such as logs or timber, weathered shingles, wood siding, and stone.
  • Porches and decks allow for the enjoyment of shade or the sun in the great outdoors.
  • Oversized windows provide natural light and tremendous views.
  • A simple, open floor plan maximizes the use of space while making a smaller footprint feel more spacious.
  • A loft provides extra space as sleeping quarters or a reading nook above the main floor.
  • Exposed wood and natural tones create a lodge-like atmosphere inside the home.
  • A master suite on the first floor, as many cabins are one or 1.5-story floor plans.
